I want to start my Viparspectra 450w review first by saying, for the price, this LED grow light is well worth it. Is it the best available? Obviously not. But in my opinion, out of all the cheaper LED grow lights that are currently available, this is one of the best.
Viparspectra 450w Specifications
The Viparspectra 450w LED grow light weighs 6.4 pounds, and is 15.8 x 8.4 x 2.4 inches in size.
For vegetative growth this LED grow light covers a plant canopy of 2.5 x 2.5 feet, when placed 24 inches above the tops of plants. For flowering growth the Viparspectra 450w grow light should be a little closer to the tops of plants, at around 18 inches. At 18 inch above the plant canopy this light covers a 2 x 2 foot growing area.
The Viparspectra 450w light only actually uses about 200 watts of power from the wall. While they claim this grow light replaces a traditional 400 watt high pressure sodium grow light, this is something I have to disagree on. In my opinion it’s more similar to replacing a 250 watt HPS. This is based on my personal results, as well as other peoples results I have seen. Also a 400 watt HPS grow light can flower a 4 x 4 foot grow area. While this light only flowers half of that space. This is not a bad thing though in my opinion, just something to know before purchasing. I will say though between this light and an HPS grow light, watt for watt they will yield very similar results. But the advantage to the Viparspectra 450w is less energy will be needed to cool your grow space. From my experience, traditional HPS grow lights run a lot hotter and will raise the temperature in your grow space significantly higher then LED grow lights. Even when both use the same amount of watts.
The Viparspectra 450w is equipped with cooling fans that will keep your unit cool. These fans are not too loud by any means, but you can hear them. They are not exactly silent.
This light has 2 on/off switch’s. One turns on the spectrum more suited for vegetative growth, which is a blue color. And the other turns on the spectrum better for plants in their flowering phase. In my opinion when using this light it is best to start the plants out only using the vegetative light spectrum. But once the plants are around 3 weeks old its best to have both light spectrums turned on for the remainder of your plants vegetative and flowering cycles. This will give the plants a nice full spectrum of light.
Another feature I really like about this light is the daisy chain plug feature. This makes it simple and neat if you need to have multiple lights in your grow space. You can simply plug multiple lights to each other while only having one cord plugged into the wall.
Viparspectra 450w Grow and Harvest Results
For this next part of my Viparspectra 450w review, I would like to show you some examples of results that you can expect to get while using this specific light.
For this Viparspectra 450w review grow 1 light was used throughout the entire grow.
The plants were grown in 12 liter pots with soil, and the nutrients used were biobizz grow, bloom and Topmax.
The plants grown out were 4 white widow autoflowers from Royal Queen Seeds. The plants were all topped and trained to increase light exposure to flowering sites.
For this grow the Viparspectra 450w yielded a total of 135 grams of dried flowers. This comes out to 0.675 grams per watt of light used. This is pretty much what can be expected when using this light. Which is pretty good for such an inexpensive LED grow light. I would say this is the average yield, but I have also seen people hit around 200 grams of dried flowers with this light. As well as some people yielding a lot less. There are many factors other than light, which can contribute to the amount of yield. The only type of lights I have never seen someone hit a harvest of 1 gram per watt with are CFL light bulbs. I never recommend using CFL light bulbs to grow with, unless for cloning or starting seed. For anything else they are far to inefficient, unless you live somewhere where electricity is cheap. If you are considering growing with CFL’s I would highly recommend THIS cheap alternative instead.
