Today is day 28 of this micro Hindu Kush autoflower grow. Quite a bit has happened in the last couple of days.
First off, I decided to remove 2 of the plants from the grow cabinet. The space was becoming too crowded and any more stretch from the plants and they would have out grown the space. The 2 plants I removed have been transplanted into 3 gallon pots and are now outside. I kept the best 2 females in the cabinet to finish micro style.
I think I finally figured out the issues I was having. Last post I said I thought it was the vitamin C powder as ph down, but I don’t think that any more. So my theory is that with the nutrients directly mixed in the coco, I was lowering the ph of my water way too much. Even though I was only adjusting the water to the 5.8 – 6 range, which should be optimal in coco coir. The problem is that the nutrients mixed in the coco coir also lower the PH of the water I water with, because most salt based fertilizers lower the PH. So the PH was ending up way too low causing issues. Think about it like this, when you mix hydro nutrients into the water they will lower the ph of the feeding solution and then you might need to further adjust down. But for me I was adjusting my water to the optimal range but then the nutrients in the media were dropping the PH even more in the coco. So to fix my issue from now on I will be watering with only RO water not ph adjusted and also trying some 50/50 RO and tap water also not ph adjusted. Hopefully its smooth sailing from here, but I will let you know in this journal what happens.
The last change I made was that I removed some light bulbs from the cabinet and am now at 4 light bulbs, for a total of 34 watts of LED. I did this partially because of heat, and also because with the less plants I need less light. The weather is heating up in my area and the temperature got up to 86 f in my cabinet one day, which is a little too high. So this should fix the issue.
One of the females is only showing very tiny pre- flowers at the moment and the other seems to be a little bit more ahead of the game and seemsto have started fully flowering.
The last thing I did was put 1 tsp of granular Azomite on top of the coco coir in each pot. I did this for micro nutrients and minerals since I might end up using mostly RO water.
